As our family’s primary bill-payer, one of the ways that I have saved our family money is by paying our bills on-line. We can pay our utilities, tithe, student loans, mortgage, cell phone, Internet, medical bills, and more with just the click of a button. We also manage our checking, savings, and credit card accounts on-line (although I still keep an off-line checkbook). In fact, the only checks I write regularly are our rent payments. All of this translates into less postage, and more money in our wallets!
What ways have you found to save money on bill-paying?
I pretty much do the same thing as you. Just recently, I was having problems with my computer (couldn’t access the internet). A scary thought occurred to me: I will have to write out and mail out checks to pay the bills! I had to remind myself that prior to paying bills online this is how many people used to pay bills. I got over it.
However, there are some companies (my cell phone company) where I would be charged extra to pay in person. There are other companies where you are charged an extra fee to pay online. It’s important to pay attention to the details regarding payment methods.
Thanks for the suggestions! You’re right–it’s good to make sure there are no additional fees in either case.
I pay my store credit cards in store to save on postage.
I’ve never tried that before…good idea!
